Hi. I’m Avery and this is my blog.
Some of my posts from 2009 to 2013
- 2009: I became increasingly critical of “religious studies” as a means of understanding premodern society. I also read Nietzsche for class, something I had been extremely reluctant to do.
- 3/2010: “Religious Studies”: The Future of an Illusion – My declaration of independence from the academy. This is the final report I presented for my religion BA.
- During spring break I started reading through all the books on Buddhism in the library, and also pulled out Spengler.
- 5/2010: Ahistory – An early reading of Spengler, tentatively finding a truth in the India he dismissed. See also part 2
- 6/2010: My Global Consciousness Before JET – My post-graduation reasoning for why I chose Japan. Note the academic buzzwords.
- My first year in Japan was spent in a state of total bliss and I did not return to intellectual problems.
- 6/2011: Mystics and Trainspotters – A description of the hesitation towards picking a side in the left-right divide which characterized my attitude during this first year. This was also a major barrier toward achieving any goals in Japan.
- 7/2011: Mysticism and Strength
- 10/2011: Overtures to the White Cargo Cults, 2007-2011
- Over winter 2011 I went home to America and saw an Evola book belonging to one of my friends who had been reading him for quite some time. I flipped through it and thought it absurd at the time, but after persuasion from him I read Evola myself in March 2012.
- 5/2012: Julius Evola vs. Christopher Hitchens
- 6/2012: Who Killed Society?
- 6/2012: Players and Pugilists at Gornahoor.net
- I started reading Guénon after writing this essay.
- 6/2012: Evola Has No Sense of Humor, and That’s Just Wrong
- July to December 2012 was spent writing my book Parahistory.
